Bidding for Wadi Al Samen line within days… Minister Ghuneim: Yatta will not be affected and the project contributes to solving environmental and health problems

Ramallah- Head of Water Authority Eng. Mazen Ghuneim, met in his office today, with the mayor of Yatta, Mr. Shukri Al-Radaideh, and representatives of Al-Haila area to discuss the work required to implement Wadi Al-Samen line project and the fears of the people of Yatta related to the project, in addition to discussing their needs in the field of drinking water allocated to them.

At the beginning of the meeting, Eng. Ghuneim stressed the importance of recognizing all the parties involved in the project the importance of implementing the project of wastewater treatment plant in Hebron, which is an important national project that the Water Authority seeks to implement to solve the problem of wastewater flow, taking into consideration the environmental and health aspects of the project. Pointed out that we are in touch with all parties to ensure that the work on the project proceeds without obstacles that may lead to delays or suspension of work. And that this project is accompanied by the implementation of Wadi Al-Samen line, in which the Water Authority has allocated the necessary funding for its implementation, amounting to NIS 30 million from its development budget, where it will be tendered for the next few days to start implementation, this comes in line with what was agreed upon with the people of Yatta to get rid of the flood of wastewater passing through their lands and causes a sanitary and environmental detestation.

Eng.Ghunaim pointed out that the Water Authority is aware of the difficult situation that our people live in Yatta as a result of the disruption of the important water project, which cost $18 million as a result of the  withdrawal of the USAID from the financing of the project before its operation and without completion of the project work, which had great repercussions and affected the citizens, but the Water Authority strives to provide funding to complete the work by communicating with several supporters where the cost exceeds $5 million.

The Minister also discussed the needs of Yatta related to increasing the quantities of water, and the need to implement a water network for the area of Haila, where the current network suffers from wear and tear, explaining that Water Authority has included the network project in the development budget for 2020, and once adopted, the necessary measures will be taken. As for the water quantities, Water Authority has worked hard during the summer to increase the water quota allocated to Yatta, which contributed to a slight improvement in per capita, and will also examine possible solutions and options for improving and increasing these quantities.
