Water Authority signs memorandum of understanding to support water emergency plan

Ramallah: As part of the emergency plan approved by the Water Authority since the beginning of the Corona pandemic, which aims to ensure water safety and monitoring, the Water Authority has identified several emergency measures and interventions to address the impact of the spread of Coronavirus on the water sector in Palestine, and to communicate with donor countries and institutions to provide emergency budgets to ensure the provision of necessary equipment and materials.

In the context of providing emergency support, Head of the Water Authority, Eng. Mazen Ghunaim, signed today a memorandum of understanding with the Austrian government at a value 350 thousand Euros, to support the emergency plan, through the Austrian Development Agency.

 The agreement includes providing water purification devices and materials, the necessary spare parts required to conduct maintenance of water pumping stations in the northern governorates, chemicals for the operation of ed-quantity desalination plants, in addition to providing fuel for vital water installations in the southern governorates for the next three months.

In this regard, the Head of the Water Authority thanked the Austrian Development Agency and the Austrian Government for their continued support to the water sector in Palestine, expressing hope that this support and cooperation will continue to achieve water security in Palestine.

The Water Authority had stressed the importance of complying with the measures included in the precautionary emergency plan, which aims to take the necessary precautions to provide safe water to citizens.
