Palestinian Government and the French Development Agency sign a project agreement on water and agriculture in Gaza Strip worth 24 million euros

Ramallah - Under the auspices and presence of Prime Minister Dr. Mohammad Shtayyeh, and the French Agency for Development represented by its Palestinian director, Catherine Bono, the government represented by Finance Minister Shukri Bishara, Minister of Agriculture Riad Al-Attari, and Head of Water Authority Mazen Ghunaim, signed a project agreement for water and agriculture in Gaza financed by the Green Climate Fund, with a value of 24 million euros, for water and agriculture in the Gaza Strip.

The meeting was attended by the French Consul General René Trocaz, the head of the Environmental Quality Authority, Jamil Matour, and FAO Representative Ciro Fiorillo, in the office of the prime minister in Ramallah

The project aims to reduce the effects of high temperatures, low rainfall, and high drought due to climate changes by utilizing additional amounts of alternative water sources that can be used for sustainable agriculture among the most vulnerable populations in the Gaza Strip.

The prime minister said that "the project is important to us, and it is the first time that Palestine benefits from this fund, it came in a suitable and important time, and I thank all the staff on it."

"We are a model for the Arab world by preserving the environment, and the importance of this project is that it is dedicated to the Gaza Strip because it needs water, electricity, and agriculture and we will remain faithful under the guidance of President Mahmoud Abbas to our people in the Gaza Strip" he added.

On his part, the French consul reaffirmed his country's commitment to continue offering support to the Palestinian people through development projects that bring stability, peace, and improving citizens' lives.
