Ghunaim: "Uniting efforts and urgent intervention to repair the damage is essential for the restoration of life for the people of the Gaza Strip."

 

The Head of the Water Authority, Eng. Mazen Ghunaim met with the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator, Resident Coordinator and Deputy Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Ms. Lynn Hastenberg, in the presence of a delegation that included the UNICEF representative, Ms. Lucia Lamy, and OCHA official, Mr. Noel Tescoras, to discuss the damages of the water and wastewater sector caused by the recent Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.

The meeting discussed the work mechanisms and emergency interventions required to be carried out urgently and unifying efforts to repair the damage and operating vital water and wastewater facilities, so that the catastrophic situation of the Gaza Strip does not return, stressing in this context the directness of the Water Authority in cooperation with the relevant parties to repair the damages.

Eng. Ghuneim stressed the important role of UN organizations to provide the necessary materials and equipment, and the importance of the rapid humanitarian interventions to meet the basic needs of citizens, in particular water and sanitation services.

For her part, Ms. Hastenberg confirmed that work is underway with United Nations institutions and organizations to ensure the entry of materials and equipment for the operation of water installations and provide the necessary maintenance and operation parts.
