Minister Ghunaim discusses with UNICEF Representative the latest developments in the water sector

Ramallah: The Head of the Water Authority, Eng. Mazen Ghunaim, met the UNICEF  Representative to the State of Palestine, Ms. Lucia Elmi, and Ms. Etona Ekol, to discuss the recent developments in the water sector and the urgent needs of the ongoing projects.

Eng. Ghunaim briefed the results of his tour to the Gaza Strip, which monitored all damage to the water and wastewater sector as a result of the Israeli aggression, and the urgent need that requires immediate intervention to stabilize the water situation and stop the flow of wastewater.

Eng. Ghunaim also stressed the constructive cooperation with UNICEF, during which humanitarian work was carried out to meet the needs of citizens in the field of water supply, through many projects that had a clear impact, particularly in marginalized areas and the Gaza Strip, noting that the Water Authority seeks to cooperate with all parties to determine the priorities and unite efforts.

The meeting discussed UNICEF's current support for the water sector in the West Bank and Gaza, including the expansion of the Yatta water system and desalination plants, urgent support under the Corona pandemic, and the provision of equipment and materials.

At the end of the meeting, Eng. Ghunaim stressed the importance of UNICEF support and interventions in humanitarian emergencies, praising UNICEF cooperation and rapid response.
