Minister Ghunaim discusses the water situation of Al-Dhahiriya Municipality

Ramallah: The Head of the Water Authority, Eng. Mazen Ghunaim received a delegation from Al Dhahiriya Municipality. The delegation briefed Minister Ghunaim on the water situation in the area,  the main obstacles facing the municipality in distributing water, as a result of a shortage of the available quantities and the high losses in the network, as well as the need to expand the internal water network in the unserved areas, in addition to the need for a sewage project.

Eng. Ghunaim stressed that the main cause of water shortages in the provinces is the Israeli occupation control of more than 85% of our water sources and the obstruction of any efforts to develop them.

Eng. Ghunaim added that the Water Authority is working to reduce water shortages in Al Dhahiriya and provide additional quantities of water, as well as to provide the necessary funding to support the municipality, to rehabilitate and expand the internal water network to reduce losses, stop the network encroachment and improve distribution efficiency.

In this context, the Water Authority, through the Action against Hunger Foundation, has worked to rehabilitate and expand part of the internal water network with a length of about 20 km, from pipes of different diameters, and work will begin soon on the implementation of the water conveyor line project, which is financed through the development budget of the Water Authority with a value of 1.5 million shekels.

At the end of the meeting, the delegation praised the efforts of the Water Authority in reducing water shortages in the city and improving the services.
