Minister Ghoneim meets the German Cooperation Director

Head of Water Authority, Eng. Mazen Ghoneim, met in his office today with the Director of German Cooperation Mr. Bernd Dunslav, and his Deputy Ms. Kathreine Lawrence to discuss the future cooperation between the two parties and to review the new program supported by the German government for the emergency.

At the beginning of the meeting,  the minister briefed on the project, which is devoted to improving the living conditions of Gaza's people to meet the necessary requirements by providing renewable energy for basic services, so that the program works with many sectors, including the Water Authority. The program also includes working on building the capabilities of the employees to keep up with modern technology used in this field in order to be able to carry out the work associated with the project such as operation and maintenance in accordance with the best and most sustainable ways.

In this context, Minister Ghoneim stressed the importance of work and interventions provided for water and energy sector development in the Gaza Strip, particularly that the water projects need all possible solutions to provide permanent sources of energy, noting that the water authority has a comprehensive plan to develop the Gaza Strip and facing the imminent disaster in 2020 unless we can provide safe drinking water, which requires to focus the work on implementing Central desalination plant project as the basic project needed by Gaza Strip, along with the emergency needs . As the  project needs support from all sides hoping that there will also be a positive intervention to support the project by the German Government we were able to secure 80% of the value of the project through the donors' conference and still seek to secure the remaining support to save Gaza and provide water for its inhabitants.
