Britain confirms support and participate in the International Donors Conference to start the biggest water project in Palestine

Head of Water Authority Eng. Mazen Ghoneim met with the Middle East Affairs Minister and the Secretary of State for international development, Alastair Burt in the British Foreign Office to discuss the Central Desalination project in Gaza Strip and preparations for the International Donor Conference scheduled on March 20 in Brussels.

Eng.Ghoneim stressed on the need for the international community to support the Central Water Desalination project in  Gaza Strip, and to participate in the Donors ' Conference to support the project financially .

Eng.Ghoneim gave also a detailed explanation of the strategic plan of the water authority and the practical steps have been taken to face the water and environmental catastrophe in Gaza Strip, and on top of these steps the Central Desalination Project to save the lives of 2 million people in Gaza.

He also presented the importance of the project from the humanitarian aspect and its effects on the political aspect of the Palestinian state project and peace in the region. In addition, the project provides a radical solution to the threats of the underground aquifers and its incapacity for human use.

Eng.Ghoneim affirmed that water authority and through the support of international partners has completed the steps and practical preparations for the start of the project, explained that the donor conference is a signal to start implementation, stressing the importance of Britain's role to participate in the Conference and support the project.

For his part, the British Minister Bert thanked Eng.Ghoneim for the project view, praising the   previous steps taken by the water authority with international partners for the successful implementation of the project, by obtaining the necessary financial support for the immediate commencement of work. In turn, the British Minister emphasized the United Kingdom's interest in the water situation in Palestine and stressed the support of the Kingdom to the central desalination project, and its support for the convening of the donor conference and assured British involvement and support for the Conference.
