Water Authority and Qatar Charity sign a memorandum of understanding to implement water projects in the Gaza Strip

Ramallah: Head of Water Authority, Eng. Mazen Ghunaim, and head of Qatar charity, Hudaifa Jalamna, signed today a memorandum of understanding to implement developmental projects in the Gaza Strip that will improve the water and sanitation services in the governorates of North Gaza, Khan Yunis, and Rafah. These projects are part of the Water Authority's plan to improve the level of service provided to citizens, taking into account the problem of the scarcity of potable water and the level of sanitation services in these provinces.

The agreement aims to implement projects to maintain and rehabilitate the sewage pumping station with a financial value of more than $238,000, including the maintenance and rehabilitation of the sewage pumping station, the rehabilitation of the Beit Lahiya project station, and the rehabilitation of the Zaytoun sewage plant in Beit Hanoun and others. These stations are major in cities and the rehabilitation and maintenance of wastewater flows and their impact on the surrounding structure, thereby improving the environmental situation and public safety.

The agreement also includes the implementation of a project of drilling a water well for Manabirelnour with a financial value of $120,000, and the project of drilling a water well for Darbal-khair with a financial value of $120,000. These wells are implemented in areas that are water-scarce and depend on high-cost water tanks, and therefore the benefit will be reflected on the citizens once they are completed by the direct access of water to citizens' homes with guaranteed quality.

Eng. Ghunaim confirmed that this agreement comes within the framework of the efforts through which the Water Authority seeks to provide the necessary financial support to implement vital projects that contribute to improving the water situation, especially in the Gaza Strip, which is living a catastrophic water reality, praising the efforts of the Qatar Charity and its awareness of the sensitivity of the water sector and its needs, which often require emergency response due to the specificity of the Palestinian situation in light of the continued occupation and the spread of the Corona pandemic.
