The Head of Water Authority discusses with the Dutch Ambassador the support for water sector and enhancement of infrastructure projects

Ramallah: The Head of Water Authority, Dr. Ziyad al-Mimi met today, with the Dutch Ambassador for Palestine, Mr. Michel Rentenaar, accompanied by the Regional Director for Global Water Network. Mr. Kees Vanderlicht, and Mr. Nasser Sheikh ‘Ali, from the Dutch Representative Office.

 

During the meeting, both sides discussed avenues for strengthening joint cooperation in the reform of the Palestinian water sector, and ways to support the implementation of the Water Authority’s plan, which aims to develop water infrastructure and improve water and sanitation services across various areas.

 

 

Dr. al-Mimi reviewed Water Authority’s efforts aimed at advancing a comprehensive reform plan for water sector, which includes the establishment and development of vital facilities contributing to improving the efficiency of services, and enhancing the sustainability of water resources. He made reference to the importance of partnership with the Dutch side in supporting infrastructure projects, and developing institutional capacities.

 

The meeting addressed the role of Global Water Network, in supporting the Palestinian water sector through the technical support provided to a number of municipalities in the governorates of Salfit, north of Hebron and Yatta. This support aims at improving their performance, and enhancing their capacities in managing water services in an efficient and sustainable manner.

 

On his part, the Dutch Ambassador reaffirmed his country’s commitment to continuing support for Palestinian efforts to develop the water sector, as he commended the progress made by the Palestinian Water Authority in implementing strategic projects that contribute to sustainable development, and improve the quality of services provided to citizens.
