Water and environment support projects(WES-BCA)

The EU has launched a new phase of the regional project "Supporting Water and Environment in the Southern Neighborhood" titled (WES) "Supporting Water and Environment-Biodiversity and climate work in the Southern neighborhood" (WES-BCA) on Nov. 1, 2024.

The three–year project aims at improving the protection of environment and recovering biodiversity, managing scarce water resources along with enhancing the ability to adapt with climate change in the Mediterranean area, and enhancing the formulation of practices and policies relevant to the partner countries and the regional and political frames, namely, the Union for the Mediterranean (UFM),  and Barcelona agreement.

The project has three specific goals which will be implemented through two separate, but complementary components:

In the first component (Water, Biodiversity, and Environment), the WES-BCA project aims to promote (1) an integrated approach to protect/restore biodiversity and reduce/prevent pollution, and (2)A more efficient management of scarce water resources in the southern vicinity.

This project aims at:

1. Enhancing the capacities of national administration, and various parties relevant to prevent and reduce pollution, protecting biodiversity, and managing water resources, to support them in the formulation of suitable policies.

2. Increasing awareness and knowledge, and improving public understanding.

3. Motivating behavioral changes required to take the suitable climate measures and protection of environment.
