Minister al-Mimi launches practical training program for new graduates in the water sector funded by the Word Bank

Ramallah: Head of Water Authority, Dr. Ziyad al-Mimi launched today, a  practical training program for new graduates in the water sector, funded by the World Bank with the participation of a group of specialists at Water Authority. This initiative comes in the context of national efforts to enhance the presence of youth talents in this vital sector.

In his opening speech, Dr. al-Mimi assured that the project represents a pioneering experience that enables graduates to be closely familiar with the work in water   sector, and to follow the stages of implementation for major projects supervised by Water Authority. He added: “We are counting on this group of young people to be an active part in building a more sustainable water future. Field experience is the true bridge between academic knowledge and actual job requirements.”

He pointed out that the program serves as a platform to exchange experience between the working cadres in partner institutions and trainees, as it enhances their readiness to contribute to the development of the institution’s performance and advancing future projects.

On her part, Eng. Rawan Is’eed, World Bank projects officer at the Authority, clarified that this initiative is the first of its kind dedicated to graduates in the water sector, indicating that the World Bank views it as a strategic step to build human capacities capable of keeping pace with administrative and technical development in water resources management.

Training coordinator Eng. Raghad Saleh, delivered a presentation addressing the program’s goals focusing on integration between practical and theoretical experience, and enhancing innovation and creative thinking for trainees allowing them to develop innovative solutions for the sector’s challenges.

In another context, Director General of Research and Central labs at Water Authority, Dr. Subhi Samhan, highlighted the importance of the practical training in improving the efficiency of technical cadres. He delivered a presentation about water sources in Palestine and the processes of disinfection and lab tests, before accompanying the trainees on a field tour inside the laboratory to learn about work procedures and quality testing methods.  

The program extends over six months and comprises of field visits for water projects in various governorates, and a practical training within specialized institutions for the sake of empowering the trainees due to acquiring applied experience, and enhancing their readiness in the labor market.

This program comes in the context of Water Security and Resilience Project,   funded by the World Bank through which Water Authority endeavors to develop the capacities of the working cadres in the sector, improve the management of water resources, and enhance their sustainability to serve national development.
