Head of Water Authority and Governor of Tubas discuss urgent procedures to ensure water equity distribution

Tubas: During an extended meeting held at the headquarter of the Governorate, Head of Water Authority, Dr. Ziyad al-Mimi and Governor of Tubas, Ahmad al-As’ad discussed the situation of water and the challenges the governorate is facing, in the presence of representatives from municipalities, local authorities, and Ministries of Local Government and Agriculture. 
Dr. al-Mimi assured that Water Authority is moving towards practical steps to ensure water equity distribution, and halt networks encroachments, monitor municipalities’ debts, and establish mechanisms to schedule them, as well as rehabilitating high water loss to guarantee service sustainability and improve their efficiency.
He emphasized the importance of regulating wells operation, and adhering to the principle of not harming public resources, noting that violations are monitored through oversight mechanisms to ensure the enforcement of penalties. He also urged municipalities to schedule and repay outstanding debts, pointing out that reducing indebtedness is a fundamental condition for enabling the Water Authority to continue providing services, and implementing development projects.
Head of Water Authority, Dr. Ziyad al-Mimi urged the municipalities to take advantage of the government decision related to the rehabilitation of networks with losses exceeding 35%, clarifying that this is implemented through financial mechanisms that ease the burdens on the municipalities, and improve management of resources.  
   
During the meeting, Minister al-Mimi was briefed concerning the achievements in Tubas water utility, as participants reviewed the main challenges facing the utility, and the required interventions to enhance the efficiency and quality of services delivered to the residents.
 
During the field visit, Minister al-Mimi headed to Tayaseer station accompanied by Governor al-As’ad, as they were briefed on the work progress of the stations’ operation and the solar plants implemented within it. He assured the importance of these projects in enhancing the sustainability of energy sources, and reducing operational costs.
 
On his part, Governor al-As’ad commended the efforts of Water Authority considering that securing sustainable water sources formulates a basic pillar to provide water for citizens. He called upon enhancing the executive and monitoring role to protect water sources.
 
This meeting and field visit are considered an advanced step towards enhancing the coordination among the specialized parties of water sector, contributing in the sustainability of resources, improving the level of services, reducing water loss and supporting citizens’ resilience in facing challenges.
