In a high- level meeting with the Special Envoy for the British Prime Minister
Ramallah: The Head of Water Authority, Dr. Ziyad al-Mimi, received today at the headquarter of the Authority, the Special Envoy for the British Prime Minister, Mr. Michael Barber, accompanied by Mr. Eliot Brooks, Deputy Director of Development at the British Consulate, and Ms. Gulinar al-Khatib, Governance Advisor at the Consulate to discuss the situation of water in Palestine, and the escalating challenges due to the policies of the Israeli occupation.
Dr. al- Mimi said during the meeting: “The occupation does not only steal the land, but also seizes water and deprives our people of the simplest rights to a dignified life”.
He added:“Despite the restrictions Israel imposes on our projects and resources, we are determined to work because water is not only a resource, but a symbol of sovereignty and dignity.”
The Head of Water Authority clarified that the Palestinian water situation is experiencing an unprecedented phase of challenges amid the systematic destruction of the infrastructure, restricted access to groundwater, and unfair deductions from clearance money. He indicated that the Israeli policies hinder developmental plans and exacerbate the humanitarian crisis.
He noted that the Water Authority is moving forward with the implementation of a comprehensive national reform and development plan, which includes strengthening local water sources, improving the quality of services, expanding sanitation projects, and promoting the reuse of treated wastewater.
During the meeting, Adviser to the Head of Water Authority, Dr. Mo’ath Abu Sa’dah, delivered a detailed technical presentation outlining Water Authority’s vision for the years 2025-2026.This vision focuses on transferring challenges into opportunities through strategic projects currently underway, chief among them is enhancing local sources, developing infrastructure and improving the efficiency of governance in water management.
